Server Security Layers (SSL) & Transport Layer Security (TSL) are forms of server & data encryption that is becoming the standard for server security and even receives favor from search engines like Google.
Server Encryption is Now the Standard
Google announced in 2016 that websites with an SSL (seen by the "https" in the URL string) would receive an added value when ranked by their search engine. An SSL not only helps your ranking, but also gives viewers an added feeling of security when navigating your website as the SSL ensures that no insecure external scripts or systems are running on your website's pages (a common way for viruses to be propagated). Additionally, a TLS provides secure communications on the Internet for such things as e-mail, Internet faxing, and other data transfers.
