Woodside School District

Challenge

The district faced significant challenges with outdated reporting tools in PowerSchool.

A key issue stemmed from a PowerSchool update that began honoring carriage returns in text fields. This change caused formatting problems in standard comments, such as text overlapping and inconsistent spacing. Although a character limit was in place, carriage returns still had to be manually managed for every trimester. Additionally, the DAT tag did not appear to include carriage returns when printed, unlike standard comments—resulting in further inconsistencies in how comments were displayed on report cards.

Solution

We designed and implemented a custom PowerSchool-compatible 5th Grade Report Card using Object Reports to address these formatting and reporting challenges.

Key Features

  • Dedicated Teacher Comment section with improved formatting controls
  • Attendance summary for absences and tardies
  • Social and Emotional Learning (SEL) standards chart displayed by trimester
  • Teacher signature field for added verification

Implementation Process

The project followed a structured, collaborative process to ensure alignment with district needs:

1.
Discovery

Reviewed the district’s PowerSchool setup, reporting goals, and data structures.

2.
Configuration

Analyzed schedules and standards configurations to align report card design with existing data.

3.
Training

Conducted live demo sessions with district staff to ensure smooth adoption

4.
Launch & Support

Deployed the report card district-wide and provided ongoing technical and user support.
