Banta Unified School District

Challenge

The district faced significant challenges with outdated reporting tools within PowerSchool. Their existing report cards lacked flexibility and required extensive manual updates, especially when aligning with current content standards. Previously, the district had contracted with PowerSchool to build standards-based report cards but still needed to update all standards manually within the system. This process was time-consuming and prone to inconsistencies across grade levels.

Solution

Our team designed and implemented a custom TK–8 standards-based report card fully compatible with PowerSchool. The new design streamlined grading, improved data accuracy, and enhanced usability for teachers and administrators.

Key Features

  • Bilingual Support: Report cards were developed in both English and Spanish using district-provided translations to ensure accessibility and clear communication for all families.
  • Performance levels aligned to grade-level content and standards taught to date
  • Grade-specific categories covering social development, behavior, reading, writing, learning traits, effort, and life skills
  • Course section integration
  • Attendance tracking
  • Trimester-based comments
  • TK—5: Standards-based grading only
  • Grades 6—8: Letter grades for core subjects (Math, Reading, Writing, Science, History) with GPA automatically pulled into the comments section
  • English Language Development section for English Learners, including assessment keys
  • GPA calculation per trimester

Implementation Process

The project followed a structured, collaborative approach to ensure complete alignment with the district’s goals and data structures.
